"Solo en sueños" by It’s A Living

"It’s A Living" is not just a statement, but also a life philosophy for Ricardo González, a contemporary designer and artist currently residing between Brooklyn and Mexico City. His distinctive writing style is easily recognizable, from large-scale murals to commercial works for some of the world’s leading brands such as Apple, Nike, Bentley, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, MTV, Yahoo!, Coca-Cola, and United Airlines, or even on a simple sticker on the streets.

For his first solo presentation at the 12th edition of Salón ACME in February 2025, in collaboration with Saenger Gallery, It’s A Living has developed a special project for the General Primm space. Drawing from the unique features of the walls of the historic house that hosts Salón ACME—with faded green, yellow, and oxidized colors, multiple layers of paint revealing the fragile permanence of time—It’s A Living wrote the text “Solo en sueños”:

Solo en sueños recuerdo
Donde viví con amor
Un lugar distante en el tiempo
Cerca del corazón
Tan vivido como el color
Y pasajero como la noche.

With this text, It’s A Living has prepared three works that materialize different states of living time (memory, remembrance, and oblivion) through a monumental painting that invades the space, a graphic work that repeats a gesture, and an ephemeral mural. With this triple action, combined with the ambiguity of his characteristic typographic writing, he continuously creates a dialogue between the viewer, the surrounding space, and the artwork. "A word is an image," the artist reminds us, and an image can be interpreted in many ways. The direct focus on typography has been an explorative path for It’s A Living, where the main goal is to question our daily lives and produce a positive impact on them. After all, it’s a way of living.
