Biography

Lives and works in Mexico City.

Rodolfo Díaz Cervantes is known for an inventive and itinerant practice that encompasses photography, sculpture, installation, and actions. Taken together, his work reveals an emphasis on the notion of experimentation and play through self-imposed rules and the multiple ways in which ideas, languages, and even everyday objects move and are codified. Interested in chance and order, in superstitions, and in the magical value that people give to objects, the artist intuitively represents his questions through materials from his architecture studio or found on the street, charging them with meaning and highlighting his insight. The work of Díaz Cervantes offers an understanding of the fragility of life and everyday life, maintaining a playful and didactic nature.

Rodolfo Díaz Cervantes studied in the Max Cetto workshop of the Faculty of Architecture of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He obtained the FONCA Young Creators scholarship in 2005, and in 2009 he was co-founder of the Vigueta y Bovedilla Collective.
