Biography

Lives and works in Mexico City

Alfredo Gallegos Mena’s practice is developed through scenarios and everyday experiences where he introduces materials that are foreign to the traditional practices of painting, sculpture, and drawing. His exercise is based on the creation of works through elements that have been transmuted, such as clay, wood, medicine packaging, organic matter, wax, old matchboxes, and various restoration components, and where each material is considered a source of information.

Gallegos Mena studied Visual Arts at the Faculty of Arts and Design (UNAM, 2009-2013), he also completed the Diploma in Curatorial Practices at the Academy of San Carlos (UNAM, 2014) and worked as a curator at Colectivo Tres and Fundación Novangardo. He has presented the individual exhibitions Construcción Pictórica Materia (Salón Acme No. 10, 2023, curated by Ana Castella, Mexico City) and Clareou (Saenger Galería, 2022, curated by Christian Barragán, Mexico City).
