Lutz Braun (*1976 in Schleswig) studied from 1998 - 2003 at the Städelschule in Frankfurt a.M. with Thomas Bayrle, Ayşe Erkmen and Per Kirkeby. He paints and draws on various surfaces, in addition to canvas and other textiles, wood, carpets, upholstery, plastics, metal and on paper, often in A4 format, used when traveling, during conversations, meetings, in everyday mobility and under the influence of music, films, literature, interviews, lectures or discussions. Many graphic and painterly techniques are used in his work. An attitude characterized by an awareness of crisis and history becomes apparent. It is conveyed in the Stream of Consciousness through hopeful or ironic, yet always disturbingly overshadowed moods and narratives.
He has been on residencies, scholarships and exhibitions in Sweden, New Orleans, Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Mexico City, Beijing, Athens, Paris, Zurich, Vienna, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt and Andratx/Mallorca.
In 2021, a comprehensive catalog “Lutz Braun. Works on Paper” was published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König. In 2023/24, a second publication “Lutz Braun. Abstract Realism. Painting 1998 - 2023”.
