Albertus Magnus, the 13th century scholar who, in his De Mineralibus, explained the origin of stones based on the myth of Pyrrha and Deucalion. Pyrrha was the wife of Deucalion, son of Prometheus; Pyrrha and Deucalion were the only survivors of a flood caused by Zeus. Deucalion threw stones over his shoulder, which turned into men, while Pyrrha threw others, which turned into women.
