Scent of Time: Horizontes Temporales by Yoab Vera: at Casa Gilardi
Past exhibition
Overview
Saenger Galería presents the work of Mexican artist Yoab Vera (Coyoacán, 1985), based on a series of evoked horizons, arranged at Casa Gilardi, designed by the architect Luis Barragán between 1976 and 1978. Vera proposes land surfaces, vertical and horizontal, that anticipate places and long for homes. The load of materials — oil, oil stick and exposed concrete — textures spaces to inhabit the domesticity of the house, exploring the tension between artist-architect when forging a shared identity.
Scent of Time alludes to the text of the philosopher Byung Chul Han, who reflects on an accelerated contemporaneity «vita activa» and suggests an antidote of time zero, through a pause, between transits and delays, in order to contemplate the present moment and savor living time «vita contemplativa». Vera empathizes with Barragán's work throughout horizons cemented by memory and the serenity of the house.
