Obra Estampa. Los originales múltiples de Pedro Friedeberg by Pedro Freideberg

Overview

This exhibition presents an in-depth survey of Pedro Friedeberg’s printmaking, composed primarily of etching, screen printing, and digital graphics. These prints have been conceived as original multiples—that is, works produced in limited editions and carefully supervised by the artist at every stage of their making—so that they may be contemplated in more than one place at a time. In this way, they have also been studied and documented in the catalogue raisonné published in 2018, Original Múltiple. Obra estampa de Pedro Friedeberg. Their reception among the public has been so impactful that Friedeberg’s name has become permanently tied to the concept, such that to know this vein of his production is to fill a gap in the history of printmaking in Mexico.

For a comprehensive understanding, the exhibition focuses on a significant ensemble of 150 works, spanning from his earliest to his most recent productions, and including many of his most important contributions to this field. As guiding threads for the exhibition, we considered: a chronology of Friedeberg’s engagement with different techniques, a description of each method, and recognition of the collaborators who have contributed to their realization. Likewise, thematic sections have been dedicated to the interpretation and revaluation of the original multiples, which have made accessible to a wide spectrum of collectors the work of one of Mexico’s most important artists.

This exhibition of the Pedro Friedeberg Studio, in alliance with Saenger Galería and the Museo de la Ciudad de Querétaro, presents Friedeberg’s worlds—imagined to leave their mark on our visual culture.
